Laser Hair Removal

What Is Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal is the process of hair removal by means of exposure to pulses of laser light that destroy the hair follicle. The primary principle behind laser hair removal is selective photothermolysis (SPTL), the matching of a specific wavelength of light and pulse duration to obtain optimal effect on a targeted tissue with minimal effect on surrounding tissue.

Due to the fact that lasers are attracted to pigment, they work best on hair that’s brunette or darker. However, a person with darker skin will typically need more sessions than someone with a paler skin as there is not as much direct intense heat going into each follicle, the energy is filtered in slower so as not to disturb the pigment in the skin.
